Perhaps the hottest news in the Kenyan sports arena is that top English Premier League football sports club Manchester City has bid 10 Million Euro for the 23 year old Kenyan born Parma Midfielder MacDonald Mariga. If the transfer bid succeeds MacDonald Mariga will be the highest paid Kenyan sportsperson raking a sum of almost 10 Million Kenya Shillings a week.MacDonald Mariga is part of the 'Golden Boys' League of former students of Nairobi's Kamukunji High School. Among other successful players from that school include Denis Oliech(Photo hereunder) who plays for the french team Auxerre.
News of the imminent MacDonald Mariga's transfer has been well received in Kenya. Unlike Dennis Oliech MacDonald Mariga has always avoided negative limelight with little being reported over his escapades, if any. MacDonald Mariga portrays a more positive image for emulation from the youth unlike the latter.

Tuskys Supermarket Rebrands Itself
The leading Supermarket Chain store Tuskys Supermarket has been out to re-brand itself three years down after some negative coverage in a leading radio station and it seems they have been successful at that. The chain store was this week awarded the Super brand status by Super Brand East Africa .Tuskys's has indeed proved to be a resilient and responsive brand and consequently the chain store has experienced rapid growth leading to a portfolio of 23 outlets Countrywide .The supermarket recently opened its grand store T- Mall on Langata Road/Mbagathi Junction in Nairobi.
Only businesses that respond to customer needs and meet customer satisfaction can maintain a competitive edge in modern day economic scenario's.Indeed that aspect of concern for the image merits the favorable mention of Tuskys management in this blog.

Muslims Protest the Detention of Sheikh Abdullah-Al-Faisal in Kenya
The streets of Nairobi namely; Moi Avenue and Kenyatta avenue were today afternoon a series of running battles between Muslims protesting for the release of controversial Jamaican Muslim cleric Sheik Abdullah-Al-Faisal and the Kenya Police. The Muslim protesters were stopped in their tracks from their intended protest march immediately after their noon prayers at the Jamia mosque by armed anti-riot and General Service Unit personnel. According to the Nation Newspaper online, the skirmishes/riots led to the needless death of one youth. At one time members of the public joined the Police in fighting of the demonstrators indicating that the issue of the radical cleric is now taking a new direction. Without doubt the riots and the loss of life and property are a disgrace to the youths involved .
The Government of Kenya is keenly intent of deport Sheikh Abdul Faisal who has been declared personna non grata in most commonwealth Countries. The Jamaican Muslim cleric famed for hate speech and lectures is being held in communicado pending his deportation. The Muslim activists are protesting due to the allegation that his Human Rights are being abused and that Due Process of law should be upheld in his deportation.
The protests are bringing to the fore highly serious and emotive issues especially with regards to religious leaders role and culpability in fomenting hatred. The comments at the Newspaper's article indicates that many Kenyans have a reservation towards the presence of the preacher and are not in support of the protests. In fact many Kenyans believe that the preacher may just be giving Islam bad press and a bad image in this era of international terrorism and religious segregation. However that opinion is debatable.I for example have many Muslim colleagues whom i believe do not support any radical viewpoints .In fact in my experience they are quite peaceful and have many positive qualities. One person can really do so much harm. The intended peaceful protests with the background of Kenya's terrorism experience with Al- Qaeda operatives and Somalia's Al Shabaab's threats will just heighten polarization of the citizenry.

Suggestive Facebook Statuses !
Have you read some Suggestive Facebook Statuses from your female colleagues, friends spouses etc on facebook such as :
How are the ladies getting to know which status message to post?Well its seems that women are sending each other string e-mails with instructions to post a suggestive Facebook status posts/messages so as to leave men guessing and or thinking "dirty thoughts."
However on close scrutiny;without doubt some of these seemingly "interesting", "funny" messages aimed at testing men amount to "obscene jesting ".Well apparently while the issue is a moral one for conservatives and true Christians the new fad is definately a No Go zone(see the scripture Ephesians 5:4) .They are not simply Jokes but prurient in nature. To deliberately create in another person a sexually suggestive image with full intent in making the person arrive at a wrong conclusion is not just "harmless fun" it is cruel and can result in very negative consequences. It is better to think twice before you leap in this era of social media networking and rapid transmission of information.
At the same time,in the African context some of these things raise eye brows!
- Bra Colors( Red, Blue Black Yellow)
- Foot Size eg. 9 Inches, 6 Inches.. etc
- Season you Prefer: eg Hot and Steamy
- Hair Styles: i.e if its up, write... ON TOP, if held back: FROM BEHIND
if its down and at either side of the face, write... SIDE BY SIDE
if it's long & straight, write... GIVE IT TO ME STRAIGHT
if its just a complete mess, write... EVERYWHERE N MESSY
if its natural/curly, write... WILD N KINKY .etc

Haiti Experiences a 7.0 Richter Scale Earthquake
The Island of Haiti has expereienced one of its most worst Earthquakes ever on a Richter scale of 7.0 totally devastating the capital Port- Au -Prince .So intense was the Earthquake that it collapsed the Presidential Palace which is probably one of the most secure buildings in Haiti. For a country that has been ravaged by po;itical strife, instability and poverty ,the disaster seems overbearing.
The Earthquake has definately created a humanitarian crisis although the international community is already rallying aid and resources to the Country.Haiti has a population of about 9.2 million inhabitants.
The USGS report link and update on the quake is at http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/last_event/world_haiti.html
