IRB Rugby Sevens -Las Vegas 2010( Kenya's Results)

Kenya bowed out gracefully after loosing to New Zealand in a score of 21-7 in the IRB Rugby  Sevens World series 2010 tournament semi finals played at  Sam Boyd Stadium USA ,Las Vegas.This is indeed without doubt an impressive performance by the national team Shujaa warriors. Kenya had vanquished England in the Quarter finals 26-21 points indicating that they are a feat to reckon with.What is perhaps impressive is that over 1,500 Kenyan supporters graced Las Vegas to support their team in the USA some actually flew from Kenya (the likes of Maina Kageni...) and the international  media got wind of it and were actually impressed.

The final results of the Las Vegas IRB series 201 which saw Samoa clinching the title and emerging winner in a score of 33-12 over New Zealand's Sevens Rugby team are indicated in the IRB website fixtures and results page.Kudos to the Shujaa team ....

Kenya's Tusker Safari Sevens 2009

The Kenya Sevens Rugby Team is absolutely fabulous,their perfomances absolutely stunning but the Safari Sevens website Dismal! According to the website the 2009 Tusker Safari Sevens is poised to take place on 19th to 21st June, 2009 at the venue:Rugby Football Union of East Africa(RFUEA) grounds ,Ngong Road.But i believe the current sponsor is mean or the organisers peg little value on the need for a proper and appealing website.(see website screenshot)

No wonder the event has not been included in the IRB Board World Rugby Sevens calendar series despite the impressive rankings and performances of the Kenya 7's Rugby Team. Furthermore the event has not been effectively marketed both locally and internationally!(Where are the Kenya Tourism Board and Brand Kenya initiative executives....still sleeping?).This blog beats you to it despite the huge differences in the marketing budget.As a Country Its time we embraced effective internet marketing !

But if you are interested in the fixtures, dates ,tickets for the 2009 Kenya Tusker Safari Sevens taking place on 19 to 21 June 2009 the Kenya Rugby Football Union website is perhaps more authoritative!

Ollie Philips Named IRB player of Year 2009

England captain Ollie Phillips was named International Rugby Board sevens player of the year 2009 ! Well i had held my breath because i was rooting for Kenyan Collins Injera who emerged the seasons top -try scorer. Kenya having been an underdog i hoped that the board would consider honoring the two deserving Kenyans but was not to be so , but the Kenyan rugby team has not lost its hopes, we are still the best and believe in ourselves.

The rugby team is set for greater heights, they cant hold you down!And that was quite an impressive perfomance at the Scotland sevens this weekend!

Collins Injera & Humphrey Kayange Make IRB player of Year Award List

This is great news for the Kenya Rugby Team "Virgin Boys"and Kenya as a whole. Our rugby team has a had a series of startling and awesome perfomances over the past five years and for the first time in Rugby histry two Kenyans have been shortlisted for the International Rugby Boards Player of the Year shortlist.


The IRB Sevens Player of the Year will be announced at a function in Murrayfield Stadium at the conclusion of the Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens on 31 May, the final event of the 2008/09 IRB Sevens World Series.

This weekend(30 &31 May, 2009) the Kenyan rugby team will be playing in the Scotland Sevens Edinburgh tournament where im certain they will prevail in a major way.
